REPUBLIC ACT NO. 7836

An Act to Strengthen the Regulation and Supervision of the Practice of Teaching in the Philippines and Prescribing a Licensure Examination for Teachers and for Other Purposes.

On December 16, 1994 the regulation and licensing of teachers was transferred to the PRC through the enactment of Republic Act No. 7836, otherwise known as “The Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994.” The law provided for the professionalization of teaching under the aegis of the PRC.

Today, teachers constitute more than half a million, comprising one of the largest occupational groups in the country.
